Let’s talk soy wax

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. It’s natural and it contains no ingredients of animal or petroleum origin.

There are a lot of benefits using soy as a maker or a buyer. Soy beans are a renewable source, which makes soy wax a more conscious choice. I’ts eco-friendly, because it’s biodegradable and non-toxic. Also. it has an increase fragrance loading, providing an excellent hot and cold throw.

Nonetheless, there is also some troubles that come along with soy wax.

Frosting is a big problem when using soy. Although it’s a natural occurence, caused by the crystalline structure of the wax, it can drive a maker mad!

One of my most annoying problems, are the so-called wet spots. Wet spots are called the spots that seem to have pulled away from the jar. This is caused by the wax cooling faster in some areas than other.

Cracking is also a very common aesthetic problem with soy. It’s caused by the wax shrinking as it cools and tiny air bubbles stuck in the container. Most people woll not notice this and it will not affect the burn.

Candles made from soy have rough and bumpy tops after burning. This is caused, when the hot wax in the melt pool cools and solidifies at an inconsistent rate. This is a feature of soy wax and not a sign that something went wrong. In fact, you can even use this feature as a way to show tha candle is made with an all-natural soy wax.

Everything mention above is totally normal, when working with soy. It does not affect the burn nor the quality of the candle.

And on this note.. Enjoy your thamas!
